Recital time has come and gone again.....and I have to say this was the BEST year yet! The dances were amazing, the music was fabulous, and the show was fantastic! Great job everyone! 3 nights of hard work.....dress rehearsal, and 2 recitals, and it went smooth as silk. Tatiana is taking, hip hop, jazz, 2 ballet classes, tap, and contemporary, and all of the dances were fabulous! She is also assistant teaching the little kiddos, and it was just precious watching them dance! We are so proud of her and just thrilled to watch her talent grow each and every year! Way to go Tat!

Summer fun at Seaport Village with Tatiana and Faviola. Lunch, shopping and sightseeing. It was a beautiful day with the girls! Then the following week Tatiana, Faviola, Patti (Favi's Mom) and I went to Coronado and had more fun! Lunch at an adorable Italian restaurant, window shopping, walking on the beach and riding a pedi cart. Tatiana almost ran someone over with her crazy driving! We were laughing so HARD we were crying! This past week was filled with family fun. First Jamie's Nephew Arthur and his son Jayden came out from Indiana to stay with us for a week. We had never met Jayden and hadn't seen Art in years! It was so great to have them and we already miss them now that they are back home. Mid visit with the Nephew's, surprise, surprise, my Mom, Sister and Niece came in from Oregon, Washington and No. Cali for a surprise visit! I was shocked! Jamie and my Sis planned it for a couple of weeks without me knowing a thing! Wow! It was so great for my side and Jamie's side to be here at the same time. Such fun. =)

What a great birthday I had! Thank you everyone! My day started by going to breakfast with Tatiana, Angela and Alyssa. Broken Yolk baby!! Soooo good. Then we went to the mall and "played." Ya know, that's what us girls do best. =) After that we went home and Jamie surprised me by getting off work early and coming home with a beautiful cake and gifts. After resting for a bit after a "hard day of celebrating" Miss Corinne joined us and we went out to dinner to celebrate again! So much fun and so much love!

I finally finished the afghan I have been working on off and on for years. I mean years! I pick it up, crochet a bit, put it away for weeks, sometimes months, then pick it up again. Well yesterday I finished it! Yes! I folded it, put it at the end of the bed and I am very happy with how it came out. =) However long it takes I just love finishing a project. On to the next. Not sure what it will be but I am looking forward to it. =)

This year Christmas morning the three of us opened gifts, had breakfast together, then went over to Corinne's in our jammies and had a mini Christmas with her. After that we came home and cooked and headed out to the clubhouse where Stephanie and Larry live. We had so much fun! Charise flew in from Atlanta, Rosie and Ja'Lisa flew in from Arizona, Sherome and her family came down from L.A., Shaaron and her girls were there, Desco's daughter, and some family friends. Family, food and fun..what more could you ask for!? It was a fantastic Christmas! Check out the family photo album on the right for more fun and festivities...=)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Yesterday Tatiana, Angela, her daughter Alyssa, and I spent the entire day into the night having a wonderful holiday girls day. It started at Starbucks for Angela and I and Jamba Juice for Tat and Alyssa. Then we headed out to Canterbury Gardens for some holiday cheer. It was packed full of people and beautiful as ever! Talk about putting us in the holiday mood! We went in saying we were not ready for the holidays and came out saying let's go home and decorate! =) Then it was off to the movies to see Four Christmases which was truly one of the funniest movies we have seen in a long time. I mean hilarious, side splitting laughter! A must see for the holidays. After that we went to IB for some beautiful holiday beach scenery and to see Angela's parents condo. Then we went to our local mall for some Sushi and more holiday cheer! The decorations there were just beautiful, there were carolers, and even a choir, so all of that put us even more in the mood! You gotta love the holidays and especially girls days!

This year we had a nice quiet Thanksgiving with just the 3 of us. Too much else going on around us right now so we decided to keep it simple. It was soooo nice. Jamie showed Tatiana how to make his "famous" mac n cheese recipe that he said he was taking to his grave! It was delicious as always! We all cooked together and then ate waaaaayyy too much food! Then we played multiple rounds of Scattegories and Buzz. Lots of laughter and competition. It was hilarious! After that we watched movies and then crashed and burned. It was such a great day! I am blessed with a wonderful family! Happy Thanksgiving!

Inspirational, amazing, fantastic, emotional, incredible, tear jerking, eye opening, wonderful...oh how I could go on and I didn't even do the walk! Lori and Dani just finished the Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk yesterday. 60 miles in 3 days!!! From Del Mar to Downtown! Unbelievable!!! Tatiana and I went to pit stop 4 yesterday in Balboa Park and cheered and cheered with our signs as they came through! Then we got to honk, honk, honk as they walked downtown to the finish line. We met the weary walkers in the Gaslamp for a quick snack before closing ceremonies at Petco Park. The tears flowed and the night came to a close for all of the survivors, walkers, and supporters. I have to say it was one of the most amazing things to witness. The spirit of these women battling this disease (my amazing Sis), the dedication of the walkers, and the joy of the supporters....simply amazing! I am so proud of Dani and Lori for doing this walk. I have never seen so many bandaids and blisters in my life! To my Sister who continues to be an inspiration to me......you did it and I am so glad that we were able to be a part of it with you. Congratulations Lori and Dani!!!!

We just got back from 5 glorious days in Vegas. Tatiana attended The Pulse http://www.thepulseontour.com/ for the second year in a row and she had, in her words, "An amazing time!!" Mia Michaels class was her favorite and she didn't want it to end. Such a cool dance they learned from her! Her other teachers were Dave Scott, Cris Judd, Tyce Diorio, Laurie Ann Gibson, and Shane Sparks. Amazing talent and an amazing time! We ran into people at The Pulse we hadn't seen in years, it was great. We also got to spend time with friends that recently moved to Vegas, do the Vegas tourist stuff, hang out with Tat's dance teachers, shop at the gazillion shops in Vegas, and eat lots of really unhealthy delicious food! A fun time was had by all!

Okay I just had to share this adorable pic of our great niece Janessa. How cute is she!?! Jamie and I spent Halloween on our front porch with Miss Corinne and all of the various neighbors passing out candy. Our house was decked out and we had so much fun checking out all of the costumes. Tatiana went trick or treating with her friends and went to a sleepover. I have no pictures. Sadness. The funny thing is she came home this morning and said, "that is the last time I will go trick or treating, it was so awkward because people kept asking how old I was." She said they didn't believe her when she said 14. Funny! Hope you all had fun!

Tatiana just finished the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Balboa Park. Jamie dropped her off at the high school early this morning so she could participate with a group from her school. She told us she wanted to do the walk for her Aunt Lori. She just called from the park and said the walk was great! I will add pictures from the walk later. Today turned into such a fun day. =) Angela and I rarely get to spend time together anymore unless it has to do with this mess of a lawsuit we are in with Otay Water the City et al. So ironic considering we used to see each other every single day in our adorable store that we used to have. Today we both took the day off for more hearings but ended up not having to go at the last minute. Yeah! So instead we spent the day together just like old times. We went to Broken Yolk for breakfast...mmmm, then off to beautiful Canterbury Gardens and Gifts in Escondido. We were in heaven looking at all of the wonderful decorations for the holidays. If you have never been you must make the trip. What a great store full of wonderful items and friendly people. Such fun! After that we went to Plaza Bonita so Angela could finish her class reunion shopping and we ran in to two of our favorite customers from our old store. Bittersweet but wonderful none the less. Lots of hugs and a few tears. They said it was so nice to see the two of us together. =) I have to agree! What a great friend I have and one day hopefully a business partner again. So here's to today (it was much needed) and all that the future holds as well!

Tatiana is 14!!!

Yesterday was Tatiana's 14th birthday! We can't believe she is already 14! Time truly does fly! Her day started at midnight with tons of texts and calls wishing her a happy birthday. =) Then at 8:00 in the morning the doorbell rang and it was her friend Brenna with Jamba Juice and cupcakes! Mmm Mmm good! Then.....Jamie and I took Tat and her "cousin" Alyssa to Sushi, the mall to shop, the movies, Mexican food for dinner, back to the house for cake, and off to Alyssa's for a sleepover! It was the never-ending day of celebrating! What fun we all had. =) Happy 14th Tatiana!! We love you bunches!!!

Today the fun continued for Tatiana's 14th birthday celebration which has turned into a 14th birthday weekend. We picked up Tat from the sleepover at Alyssa's and then went to Marissa's house to pick her up so Tat and Marissa could celebrate! We went to the Mall (of course) had lunch, shopped a bit, then came back to the house and the girls played Monopoly, messed around on the computer and then went to the park. Dinner to follow......Happy 14th again and again!!!

Our art teacher just got back from a trip across the U.S. in her motor home. Along the way she went to a 76,000 square foot antique show in Ohio. Wow, that is a lot of antiques! We are now painting a still life of a coffee pot, cup, grinder, coffee can, and scoop that she picked up at the show. We will be finishing this painting in class next week so I have a lot of homework! Here is the very beginning of the painting. I think I will hang this in the kitchen when I am done! Last month Ruth, her hubby Jeff and their PRECIOUS baby Serena visited San Diego from Northern Cal. We met up with them in Old Town and spent the day catching up, eating, and being tourists in our town. It was sooooo great to see them! We just love Jeff....funny, funny man! Serena is quite possibly the cutest baby ever!! Ruth and I have known each other FOREVER (since 5th grade) and now she has a baby and I have a high schooler! Hilarious! Thanks for the pics Ruth! I know I said I had planned to paint all Summer...best laid plans and all....not so much. I didn't paint at all. Not in the mood, too busy, too tired, doing other things, who knows. However art class is back in session as of today and I am totally motivated again. The paint brushes are dusted off and I am ready to roll! Today was filled with lots of hugs and laughter after not seeing everyone for a month. Art class is inspirational! I finally finished the dahlia. I found a frame here at home that is perfect for the painting. The frame itself is too dark so I am going to paint it. Nothing like recycling old frames and using up old paint. =) I can't wait to dig in to our new painting. More to come on that one next week.....lovin' art!

No matter who you are voting for in November, today is such a historical day for everyone! On the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech, the first black presidential nominee is giving his speech. That my friends is incredible! As a white woman married to a black man, who during the year Dr. King gave his speech would not have been able to legally marry the person I love, this is an incredible day. As the Mother of a daughter who is half black and half white this day is something she can take with her for the rest of her life. She too could run for President one day and by then it won't even be unusual. So today whether you are a Democrat or a Republican I hope we all realize how special this moment is. Maybe one day it won't even be a conversation, it will just be.

15 Years! Who would have "thunk" it!

Yesterday was our 15th anniversary! I can't believe it has been 15 years! It seems like not long ago we were standing in the Rose Garden at Balboa Park getting married. What a wild ride it has been. We have had lots of ups and lots of downs and through the years we just keep getting stronger. That's what marriage is truly about. This year has been the true test of our strength and our marriage. Who knew that when we took our vows 15 years ago and said for better or worse the worse would include finding out that the building our business was in was hooked up to sewer water instead of drinking water. We are now dealing with the loss of our business due to all of the negative publicity, health issues, financial issues, emotional issues, lawsuits, and everything else that goes along with this mess we are in, but as everything else around us is falling apart our marriage just keeps getting stronger. They say that opposites attract and what doesn't kill you will make you stronger...well we have both those bases covered so we are good to go for the long haul. =) If we can make it through this we can make it through anything! Here's to marriage, with more ups than downs, never-ending faith, and true everlasting love.

Wow...it seems like just yesterday Tatiana was starting her first dance class. Now not only is she taking every class offered, she is a student assistant for the very kids that are the age she was when she started. Tatiana said that dance is not only her passion but her "just say no to drugs." She said that she hopes she can give that same passion to the little kids. I love it! My baby is all "growed" up!

Back in the swing of things! Tatiana is on month two of high school and she is loving it. We went to open house the other night and met all of her teachers and got to experience the bell schedule and her classes. Crazy being on a high school campus! In this pic she is working hard on her Spanish homework. Southern Cali, gotta know Spanish! =)
She also just started her new dance schedule which is going to keep her very busy. She is taking hip hop, tap, jazz, lyrical, two ballet classes, and is student assistant for one of the little kids classes. She has found her passion that is for sure. We always tell her to follow her passion, and live her dreams and so far she is doing it! =) I will get some pictures from the studio when she is not looking, this is just her messing around in the backyard. Miss flexible.

One of the other projects I always enjoy working on is my crocheting. I am crocheting a blanket that I think I have been working on for hmmm, about 4 years now. Okay maybe not that long but it seems like forever. This is going to be a "king size" blanket by the time I am done! The green one in the background is one I finished years ago and we use it all the time. Crocheting is a wonderful thing to do while relaxing and watching tv. I just enjoy having projects to always work on. Maybe it is because I am OCD or ADD or just CRAZeeee =) I always have to keep busy. But what the heck, whether I am learning something new or working on something old...the fun never ends.

We had our last art class for Summer and now we have a month break until the fall class begins. I will miss our classes not only for the joy and relaxation of painting but for the wonderful conversation and laughter that each week brings. What a great group of women! During our month off we will be finishing up our Dahlia's and working on our new project...greeting cards. Our instructor taught us how to paint beautiful cards in a matter of minutes. Minutes for her that is! The cards will be a fun side project to have during our time off. I am looking forward to painting my heart out during August but looking even more forward to starting class back up again in Sept. Can't wait to see everyone!

We just had an earthquake here in Southern Cal. Jolts, rolls, booms, shaking, all different things people felt here in San Diego County. We just stopped what we were doing, stood still to see how long it would last, took some deep breaths and then went on with business as usual when it was over. Crazy California livin.'

We are working on a new painting in class and continue to learn more and more new techniques. New to me that is. Who knew there were so many! I really enjoy painting flowers and all of the detail that is involved with the different varieties. This time the painting is a dahlia. Hmm, maybe now I will start working on a garden. I am such a green thumb ya know. Can you hear the sarcasm in that last sentence. =) More things to learn.....and the fun continues.......

Oh my gosh our "baby" started High School this morning! I can't believe it. Only yesterday she was in Kindergarten. Okay maybe not yesterday but it sure seems that way! I can't believe we have a 9th grader. Wow! We are so excited for Tatiana..today is the first day of the rest of her life. =) What an exciting time! Tat was up at 5:00am getting ready and then we dropped her off at Destinee's at 6:30 (can you say early) so Brenna, Des and Tat could all finish getting ready and then go to school together. The picture above is the 3 of them on another day because they wouldn't let me take any pics this morning without their hair done! Teenagers. Don't they know that Mom's have to have the first day picture!!?! C'mon now. Well I snuck one picture in before Tatiana left for Destinee's. She will not be happy I posted it, but hey the first day memories are the first day memories hair done or not! =) At least from the Mom's prospective! Happy first day Tatiana!!! We love you bunches!

I decided it was time to move from the kitchen table to an area that can always stay up so I can come and go from my painting. My dear friend Kathlene gave us a drafting table years ago when Tatiana was taking art class from home. It has been collecting dust for quite a while so now it is finally being put to good use again. I have my own little studio corner in the garage and I love it. One day I will have a studio but for now this is perfect. =)

For the year round kids Summer is a quick one...only four weeks. This Summer is going to be "staycation" time and so far it has been filled with lots of swimming at the neighborhood pools, hangin' out at the mall, sleepovers, farmers market, birthday parties, more grad parties, and hangin' at the parks. Yet to come.....movies, picnic at the beach, Balboa Park, Old Town, ferry ride to Coronado, and more!

High School here they come! Tatiana graduated from 8th grade this week and we are so proud of her and all her hard work in Middle School. On to High School!! Grandma Terry, Aunt Stephanie, Corinne, and the Mallory Family joined us in celebration at the graduation. What a fun filled week! Graduation, dinner celebrations, taking the San Diego trolley tour (finally!), graduation parties, and so much more! It has been a whirlwind week of festivities with more to come! Wow what a GREAT girls weekend we had! Dani hosted the weekend at her condo on the beach and Lori came down from Washington. Talk about fun times! We packed in so many things in two and a half days it was unreal! Thai food, card games, makeup show at Nordstrom's, makeovers, shopping, juicy burgers, Sex and the City, coffee at Starbucks, psychic readings...so cool, Sushi dinner, walks on the beach, shopping at the boardwalk, lunch on the beach, chillin' at the condo and a movie at the condo. Whew!!! All that in one weekend! There was also lots of laughter and a few tears too. Girls weekends are the bomb!!! Can't wait for next time! Tatiana, Destinee, and Mariza were in the talent show at their school last week. They sang a song by Danity Kane and sounded great! Tatiana and her friends are so talented and so much fun to be around. She has a wonderful group of friends. We love them! Tat's voice blew us away. She won't sing in front of us so we were so excited to finally hear her sing!!

To all you Mother's out there I hope you had a fantastic day! My beautiful daughter and wonderful husband spoiled me all day. I woke up to cards and a gift from Tatiana and Jamie and Tat's card was so special I cried. Happy tears of course. She made the card, and the sentiment that she wrote was far beyond her 13 years. I am so blessed to have such a thoughtful and loving daughter. That was followed by a day of rest and relaxation.....they made me breakfast, cleaned, (Jamie kicked me out of the kitchen when I tried to help) I read magazines and watched Food Network, and that was topped off by an evening wandering the shops at the mall and then off to dinner at my favorite Sushi restaurant. It was lovely! Thank you to my beautiful loving family! You are the best! I love you with all of my heart. =)

We are working on portraits in class and we had the choice of a lady from Jamaica or Placido Domingo. I chose the Jamaican lady. Portraits are interesting. I am not sure how she is going to turn out....I just keep working on her. I have quite a ways to go, but here she is in the middle stages......I have decided I really enjoy still life or landscape. One day maybe I will add portraits to the list. Just not yet. =)

My comedian husband Jamie says I am actually painting Aunt Jemima...you know the one from the pancake box. Nice. Only he would think of that.

We spent last Friday night with my niece Danielle, her Dad Tony, her roommates Heather and Megan, and their Dad's Kevin and Jerry (who were all in town visting from Washington state). What a FUN and crazy time we had. Great Italian food, wine, and laughter at Mama Mia's and then hours of fun back at their beautiful condo on the beach playing cards, laughing HARD, drinking more wine =) and enjoying each other's company. Done....well maybe. I actually took one of my paintings out of a frame the other day to tweak it. Details, details. =)

I still have some fine details to work on but you get the idea. This one was quite the challenge! Jamie and I have had a week alone while Tatiana is on her trip. What a weird and wonderful week it has been. The mixture of emotions is crazy! It is so strange to not have our "baby" home each day yet it has also been a wonderful reconnect for Jamie and I. Tatiana is truly having the time of her life and we are truly enjoying time with each other. The joy in her voice when we talk to her on the phone just makes us smile. What an adventure she is having! She gets home tonight and we can't wait to see her!!! I am sad for her that this adventure is ending...what memories she will have. Today is Jamie's 45th birthday too so it is a great day all around! We have enjoyed our time together and also can't wait to have our wonderful daughter home again! In celebration of Jamie's birthday we had delicious barbecue at Stephanie and Larry's house. We had a great time together as always! To us and to family!

East Coast here they come! Tatiana left for her 8th grade East Coast trip this morning in the weeeee hours! We were up at 4:00am this morning for the beginning of her adventure. Can you say tired!? She was so excited she didn't even sleep last night! 50 8th graders are on the way to Washington DC, Mt. Vernon, Alexandria VA, multiple cities in PA, New York City NY, Ellis Island, Boston & Plymouth MA, and more! 8 days of history and fun! They will be visiting many historical sights, shopping, going to a Broadway play, dancing on a boat on the Potomac, and just having the adventure of a lifetime!

I just finished this one this morning. I painted for hours yesterday. I looked at the clock last night and all of the sudden it was 10:00! I get lost in the painting. =) I am very proud of this one. I am learning more each week and hope to just keep growing and growing and enjoying more and more. I keep tweaking this one but I think I am really done now. I might play with the cutting board and the label just a little more or maybe I will just stop. Who knows...that is part of the fun. You can just keep playing with it to make it your own.

This painting covers it all...shape, form, highlights, shadows, light, you name it. I still have a long way to go but here is step 3. I still have to add highlights, shadows, darken items, and so on. It is amazing how much we learn in 3 hours and how fast 3 hours goes! We are starting a new painting next Thursday so the rest of this one is "homework." I can hardly call it homework it is so relaxing but that is what it is! =) I will post the final painting next week.

Last night Jamie and I went to Tatiana's high school orientation...yes, that is right, HIGH SCHOOL!!! Our "baby" starts high school in July....how crazy is that!? The night was great because we ran into tons of parents that we have known since the kids were in kindergarten so we were all in the same boat of disbelief. High School!! Time is flying faster than I ever imagined. College will be here in no time! Our baby is all grown up!

Art class just got even more fun because Jennifer and Corine who owned the shop next to ours and also had to close due to the water just joined class with me. They are very excited to be in class and we are all thrilled to be doing something fun together. New assignment, wine, cheese, crackers, and fruit...maybe I should ask the teacher if we can sample the items in this painting while we paint. Sounds good to me! This one is my favorite so far!

This is my corner where I pray and reflect each morning. The candle and the rock are for my faith, the Buddha is for peace, and the plaque is for love. I light the candle each morning and say a prayer. I read an inspirational quote or scripture and just reflect while drinking a nice warm cup of coffee. My meditation. It starts my day out on a positive, peaceful, spiritual note. My faith has gotten me through the madness this last year, without it I wouldn't have made it, peace has returned, and the love of my husband, daughter, family and friends, gives me pure joy. If you have faith, peace and love in your life, in whatever form it comes to you, you pretty much have it all!

After everything that happened this last year it is truly a joy to just have some fun. Painting gives me just that....fun and joy! Here is the beginnings of 2 swans. So far just working on the water. More to follow.... I am also enjoying displaying some of my artwork as well. The iris's are on the back mantle along with a candlestick that I made years ago..and the candle painting is displayed just inside the den. Jamie is afraid I am going to take over the house! =) Where will the swans go? Hmm?

My art teacher says painting is better than therapy...I have to agree! It is the most relaxing stress free activity ever! It is wonderful! One more to add to my collection.....I have a bunch of candles on my coffee table so this one was inspired by those...thanks Miss Corinne for all of the candles! Tatiana just finished her Winter Recital and what a great show it was! 3 nights of dancing! She can't stand taking pictures so I only have a couple to share. Teenagers. =) Her classes this year are tap, jazz and hip hop. She informed me yesterday that hip hop is her "calling." I love it! Her calling. She wants to move to New York to go to college and to dance. Can you say scholarship? Rhea you might have a frequent weekend visitor in 4 1/2 years. =)

Okay I am really into this now....I can't tell you how relaxing painting is! I painted this "funky" cross today and I really like how it came out. I have a cross on the wall that is similar to this one so that is where I got the inspiration. Now that a new year has begun...I promised myself I would do the things I love and have always wanted to do. One of those things is taking an art class. I started a watercolor class yesterday and I am so excited! I met a class full of women from all different ages and backgrounds and had a ball. I am a true beginner so bear with me. These pictures are the beginnings of an Iris. I will post the final painting and some from the class when it is done. I am just so excited to be taking the class I had to share! January 17th.......I have added all of the steps of my painting and I am now done with my first official class painting! Too much fun!

The older I get the Wiser I get...no pun intended. In my 20's the things that were important are pretty darn irrelevant now, in my 30's the things that were important are less so, and in my 40's the things that are important are; faith, family, friends, love, helping others, kindness, truth, good food, candles burning, window shopping, a good cup of coffee, a fire in the fireplace, and lots more love! None of these cost a dime but will give you riches forever!!
